That's because due to being exposed to the Internet and specially to hiveminds like 4chan you have far more memetic awareness and such things appear to be stale to you as you've seen through them a million times, but for the average person they can still be funny to some degree. The jokes and whatever is funny wears off more rapidly for our kind.
But yes, it's true that genuine humor is rare in MSM, most of times all of humor you see is just references to things that have been funny once in a distant past. Not much to be done other than looking for actual fun in greener pastures.
I personally have found lots of new and fun stuff in Youtube meme playlists but most of the time I'm too lazy to go check them even knowing I'll actually laugh. I guess part of the appeal of MSM TV is that you are spoon-fed everything and don't actually have to decide for yourself what content you browse.
