>why not? The antenna is just a receiver. Its size relative to the frequency spectrum on which the data is being "carried" on but they're just a frequency specific conduit. There are more advanced type of signals that have a lot more "overhead" but simple radios aren't too complex. The same reason the wiring in our house isn't producing electricity Picrel gives an idea of how data is junctioned to a carrier wave. There are different antenna profiles; Dipole, monopole, etc but they're just like any other layer 1 thing in osi if that makes sense.
By no means thorough but the gestalt of it I guess. Theres more advanced stuff like the channel hopping radios, crypto, and other layers that can be stacked on top to make sending/receiving more difficult to just intercept but its just more complex variation of the basic things.
