I think you're right about it being a farm though. It's not for energy or any sort of new age concept though, that shit's all made up. Hundreds of thousands of people go missing every year, it's slave labor, pure and simple. All advanced civilizations live underground, surface dwellers get picked off by roaming slavers. And you know you're a slave species when your species' default reaction to aliens is nervous laughter and a quick change of conversation topic.
