Paintings and stuff like that? Yeah that is reasonable.
But there is no reason in painting a sculpture.
Just how they used to engrave words in stone, by the reasoning they would just use paint to write words?
From my perspective Engraving and Sculpting was used so the image and message would carry on for centuries.
Painting can be destroyed or vandalized.
A sculpture outdoors will have its colors washed away even if it was vandalised by someone that quickly would learn why not to do that.
