And he was correct, because Germany did kick the door in, and all the desperate measures that the Soviets brought up to keep their system afloat are the reason why the structure is collapsing. The second world war was the death blow to the Russian Nation. Russia just had two options: Either be subjugated by Germany, or be subjugated by whatever power would take over Europe next. The changes the Soviets brought with them were not sustainable. The war in the Ukraine is the echo of exactly that desperation, because Russia is running out of people now that it is not in a “medieval system” anymore.
