Religions have an important role of managing natural human tendencies and society needs.

And without means of direct control it relies on satisfying a mix of human needs such as security and sense of belonging.
Although different institutions took some roles of religions they are mostly less efficient and lack self reinforcement. Abolishing religions now is like burning down a shack before building a house.
