Dyaus-Pitr is Sanskrit for Sky Father and the root of the Latin term used by the Catholic Church "Deus-Pater", which means "God the Father". Another name for the Sky Father is Akasha, which means Aether, a fundamental, all-pervading medium that connects everything in existence, holding the potential for consciousness and intelligence. Every action has a ripple in the Akashic field, every being is connected through it and it as empty and boundless as the sky above.
In the Rig-Veda, Dyaus-Pitr is often called "Heaven Father". This is where Heavenly Father came from, and why you pray to the "big guy up stairs". So when you look up at the sky and you see that, you are looking at God.
