So if there are some project where you need tempered glass, be it some table top, or some canopy. You make order to company, they cut glass by required dimensions, and then put in special kiln to temper it. If regime is observed correctly, you get tempered glass, which if broke, will split in a lot of tiny pieces, thus increasing safety (less large pieces of glass, which can cut human). But process is very tricky. That glass can spontaneously broke inside kiln, it can broke on its own while waiting for customer to pick it up. One of reasons, why tempered glass is so expensive. Because it is way more capricious.
