I know shonen, shoujo, seinen and josei are specifically demographics, however, it's very obvious that each demographic generally has writing styles to appeal to their demographic.
Beyond the action and fighting, all character interactions in Inuyasha are strongly rooted in 80s and 90s shoujo. The interactions between the characters, their banter and their arcs aren't typical with what you find in the standard shonen, but in the standard shoujo instead.
Kagome in particular is literally a cut-out, carbon-copy shoujo protagonist. She goes through various shoujo arcs like questioning if she likes other men other InuYasha, dealing with her tsundere boy love interest, high school arcs, and trying to win over her love interest from another girl.
InuYasha's a shoujo with shonen slapped onto it. It would be no different than marketing Dragon Ball Z as a shoujo and slapping it into shoujo magazines, but changing absolutely nothing.
