>>9431869long story short they needed stomach acid from basilisks to unpetrify a guy. a caravan of people unfit for battle were evacuating the city that the players were in and going to go right past where the basilisks were. i figured they'd probably go with the refugees but they decided to leave them in the dust to hurry up so the players weren't there when the caravan was ambushed and everyone died.
basilisks don't have any way to deal with the party's range so i told them we can hand wave the combat and they can kill as many as they like, so obviously they chose to kill the entire colony. after doing that they realized they didn't have a way to transport the stomach acid so their only option was to take 40 basilisk corpses several miles back to town. they chose to do this by using magic to make a giant apple so their semi-friendly demon horse would take them to the ethereal plane where there isn't gravity for easy transport. of course since their return trip was on a different plane they missed the scene of the massacre and won't find out about it until the city is no longer under seige
many sessions from now and someone else can go find it.
