mononoke is good but i'm a bit more modern, harder to get as immersed in older periods like that, although learning more about sengoku period helped. castle in the sky and howl's moving castle are a bit more suited to childlike naivete as they're more fantasy in nature (for the record, i liked the source material for howl's moving castle a bit more)
the cat returns is more comedic if you want something much lighter, kaze tachinu is a lot heavier. nausicaa is kinda hard to describe because it's much older than the rest
