Enormously long periods of hardship between (military, school, working overseas, studying, more studying, and long periods apart. She had the means to pay my way through grad school, buy us a house, and basically set us up well enough to make things easier. We’re doing well now, but it took a long time to get here, and if she hadn’t come from a good family with money and a priority on education, I don’t think it ever could have happened.
