I'd say it was undoubtedly Gamergate. Before that political culture on 4chan was fairly minimal, and focused on /pol/ and having a pop at pathetic social justice warriors. By the time of 2014, Gamergate spread the culture war here in a way that it had never seen before. Things have never gone back.
