There certainly were some alterations. The book itself has this Hollywood-like feel to it. It's not far fetched to think that whatever it was that Anne actually wrote was altered to make the story more dramatic in order to sell more copies. If capitalism was invented by the joos then it's quite ironic that they would exploit the persecution and suffering of their compatriots to make money.
