This point was that "If you claim to worship the God of War, brother of the God of Death, then you forsake him, he will bring armies to wage war on you and send plagues upon your people. That was the point of "You will have no Gods before me".
You notice how it doesn't say "I am the only God"? Because the original story did not include "Only one God", and God acknowledges the fuck out of this fact. He says these are "False idols" because they are for other Gods, and people were trying to worship them to please Yahweh.
>singular almighty christian godThe problem is that this is a terrible misinterpretation that doesn't respect the history and reality of the faith. This "single God" argument is the product of a large restructuring and re-writing of the Bible to simplify God and make it seem like their God might actually help them, despite all evidence pointing to the fact that Yahweh, God of War, hated the Hebrews/Jews because they had forsaken him.
The entire Bible is just God punishing the Jews for this. Every time, the Jews fucked up, God gets angry, some rival nation conquers the Jews, then, the Jews repent, and God helps them fight for freedom.
At the time of the restructruing of the Bible, the Jews had spent 500+ years being conquered and enslaved by the Canaanites. God clearly wasn't coming to help them "fight off their oppressors and liberate the Hebrews".
At this point, when the Jews lose every war, get conquered 100% of the time, and God isn't coming to help you fight off your oppressors, then this causes the Jews to believe that God hates them or has abandoned them.
