VI is an example of the idea being executed better after experience, and the core of VI is way ahead of vanilla V, but still hideously incomplete: they actually copied a large part of its unit lineup from facebook's Civilization, which explains weirdness like Riflemen not existing and Knights upgrading into Tanks. Screenshot is from my last game of C2C which is... difficult to describe in frank terms, but it was one hell of a ride. Never got to really finish it though as Lamebryo is a terrible engine and the game eventually crapped itself after running out of memory. This is just all the civs that fit on the screen.
