Humility allows for the recognition and admission of one's own shortcomings.
It's from this position that a person can correct mistakes in their own behavior and thinking, as well as to better endure the pain of a wounded pride for shame of ignorance.
Eventually that shame for our own ignorance will turn to gratitude for correction and the obtaining of deeper understanding, so long as humility is routinely practiced and striven after.
Humility also fosters compassion through understanding the circumstance of others.
For everything you know, there is a time and place you didn't, and that can be said for everyone.
To shame others for being ignorant is to shame them for a circumstance beyond their control.
Instead of shaming others for a lack of knowledge, we should instead seek to correct, and to be corrected.
If another person becomes angry at you for correcting them, so long as your methods and intents were pure, then it is their own sin, but we should also be able to recognize a wounded pride and have compassion, for we all know the pain thereof.
