It's really simple. The people that manage these companies are completely incompetent. Management across all industries think more people = more output. However in many industries where the output is more dependent on logical work, not physical labor, more people over a threshold means less output. As you add more people the complexity of coordinating those people and communicating ideas increases. That's where these worthless middlemen jobs arise. Manage is unable to accept that adding more people is decreasing output, so they find a new way to add more people and make the problems even worse.
