Ignore the hylic whining about the universe being cold and empty. Viewing the world through a mechanist perspective is just sad.
Don't trust those that tell you it's all over when you pass. Even those who are top tier thinkers and physicists frequently deride this idea. Purely by the laws of conservation of energy and the functions of quantum mechanics, it's very unlikely your consciousness just vanishes.
YOU are not purely in your body or brain. Consciousness is not encapsulated in your head, it's merely localized there. Look into the work of Sam Parnia, a researcher (in the legitimate scientific sense).
You don't need science to sense the logos/Tao, you can achieve this through careful observation and learning to perceive. Threads of unseen being and order surround you, and once you become aware of them, you will realize that your time here on earth is fleeting, preparatory.
Don't believe me though. Go see for yourself. Truth is never hidden from a true seeker.
