>>14820630I was just thinking about this and talking about it with friends, holy shit.
100%. Like, most nostalgia is stupid and used to make people buy shit, but there's absolutely a good justification for being nostalgic for that period of time and the movies (e.g., the enclosed) that came with it.
My reasoning:
>(For most of us in our late 20s/early 30s) Movies like American Pie represented promises of the future, women, and the idea of growing up, as awkward as it was. It was exciting to think of college as this promising place of parties and growing up, rather than (as it ended up being) a splash of cold water as we all panicked and tried to get jobs post-'08.>Lack of social media and other sources made personal interactions a bit more real and a bit less scripted >Lack of social justice made movies a bit more fun, less careful in their jokes, and the content overall pandered to normal straight dudes more>Generally a more jovial tone, fewer attempts at being sarcastic or self-referential or establishing some sort of long-term franchise>Movies like American Pie kinda knew what they were - they weren't trying to be deep or too original, but rather just kinda enjoyed sticking to the formula and executing it somewhat wellI recently went with some buddies to a FRIENDS (i.e., the TV show) pop-up event in my city, it was weirdly nostalgic in a big way because the show was just so goddamn simple. It was a bunch of straight white people with relationship drama, no need for anything deeper. Kinda miss that. There was something very simple about living in a world where I didn't see my friends all the time, so we made some real efforts to meet up and catch up in real life.
Don't get me wrong, we all need to grow up and dwelling on the past is stupid. But all the same, there are some aspects of the '90s and '00s I miss.
