They were also very different to us as far as their moral capability and their life circumstances. Christ's calling for the Church is so much higher than His condescension and long-suffering of the Israelites during the time of the Law. Remember when our Lord Jesus Christ said that Christians aren't allowed to divorce anymore and must be monogamous for life, the Apostles literally said (paraphrasing) "Lord, it's not even worth it to marry then!" That's how upside down their morality was, but Christ, being Virtue Incarnate, has fortified the human spirit to achieve ever greater heights.
