no it wasnt extermination, the word "Ausrauten" means uproot/relocate not exterminate, they died of disease and starvation when the war destroyed supply lines
Naturally the jews were pissed so they make it look 100x worse and leveraged this realizing that in the post WWII world, the group with the most power is the group that is seen as the worst victim b/c nowadays altruism and shame are the rules instead of might and right.
