On one hand it's obvious that having grown men watching cartoons for and about little girls is an escapist fantasy which could gradually affect society.
In the other hand, anime is one of the only forms of media where you can reliably find depictions of traditional ways of life, even if they are set in modern times they still focus on aspects which are spiritually nourishing and promote wholesome types of relationships.
