I dont see this talked about enough, so i'll say it here.
The folks who sound the alarm about AI and whine constantly about how its ruining everything, are going the bidding of corporations.
You might wonder why that is, how its possible. Isnt it big corpos who have the most to gain from AI? Yes, but not in the way you think.
When you cut down to the meat, most of these talking heads doom-casting about AI are advocating "regulation", They believe that regulation will make AI practices more fair, or solve their personal problems or hang ups with the technology.
The rub, however - is that regulations, especially by AI will be facilitated, and advised by the companies which dominate the industry, The government, if it chooses to create some regulatory board will seek these companies help in formulating policy.
These companies will use regulating the industry as a method to tighten their grip on the market, Make it harder for small competitors to arise. And create "standards" which govern how its used (which includes censorship, or criteria for ''unlawful use'' of AI) All of which benefits these companies greatly.
If AI is "regulated", AI will still manipulate you, it will just make manipulating you an exclusive right of corporate entities, while limiting the rights of normal people to use the technology freely.
So when your socialist friend is talking about how we need to regulate AI, remember theyre just dick-riding an AI lobbyist
