back then I was really interested in it because its use as a lingua franca in Europe, esp. in universities and scientific texts. They still have conferences somewhere in Europe I think where people all around the world speak in latin. Imagine that, speaking to 100 different people with 100 different languages but you can all speak to one another cause you learned latin. neat
