>>20572262I live in rural Ohio. Ironically, we really do only have 2 bars.
The reason I never moved out is for multiple reasons:
#1. I never went to college, so my job prospects are very limited. The way pay structures are set up out here, there's 0 incentive for me to get a degree. I make $25/hr + great insurance + good 401k + 20 days of paid vacation, working in a factory. I'm literally making more than the middle managers at my local bank, who make $22/hr starting pay, while also requiring a Bachelors Degree in Business or Finance. The tellers at my local bank make $15/hr starting pay. Even Walmart starting pay is $17/hr out here. There's no job that pays better than factory work in rural Ohio, unless you get a degree in engineering or computer science.
#2. The first 10 years of my life I grew up in East Cleveland. There's nothing great about big cities. They are dirty, crime infested shitholes, where you need to be on constant alert 24/7 and have a gun on you at all times. People are rude, the job market is still shit, the pollution is noticeable and the traffic is horrible. Every time I visit a city, I'm ready to get the fuck out after a few hours. Living there would be hell.
#3. I do travel. What kind of retard thinks that just because I live in a rural area I can't travel? I just take an Uber to the airport, fly wherever I want, vacation for a week, then come back home. It's not like we don't have Uber in rural areas too.
#4. The living expenses are fairly cheap. You can get a 2 bedroom apartment for $850/mo. Meanwhile, my buddy that lives in Florida, between Orlando and Tampa, is renting a 2 bedroom for $1,450/mo. I'd rather live cheaper and save that money for investments or travel, instead of blowing 50% of my monthly take-home income on an apartment.
#5. I don't go out as much anyways because everything is expensive as fuck. No, I will not be paying $12 for a mixed drink. No, I will not be paying $7 for a beer. Most of the things I enjoy are free.
