Suppression against ideas that challenge institutions tends to happen dute to convenience for such institutions. I'm inclined to think that people's normal collective tendencies creates an illusion of mass coverup. Few have interest in alchemy, they see alchemy as either some elaborate allegory or a "primitive" chemistry, when alchemy is really just a dangerous lost field of research.
