Well comics aren't exactly known for their elevated place in literature. Most of them are products more than anything, made to appeal to the lowest common denominator. There's nothing wrong with reading something just to be entertained but you can't expect it to have a lot of intellectual merit.

But what's interesting is how well controversy sells. A bit of a strange example but you like Riamu so I'll give her as one, as much as I dislike her the devs knew exactly what they were doing when they put her in the game. They knew she was going to be extremely divisive and what happened was that both her and implicitly the game garnered more attention. You can check the boorus for how much art she has, in just three years she got more than the likes of Aiko who's been around for a decade now and who, might I add, is a much nicer person and a much prettier girl too.
