Only shining light after that was our IT sector and especially Nokia and when that got fucked around 2007 that was it for us, our economy hasn't recovered since and it's just been getting worse by the year.
Pic related shows the GDP growth and you can see pretty much Nokia's and tech sector's strength starting from -96, but once the phone giant was out, it was game over for the economy.
Unfortunately we have an absolute shitload of boomers, who never understood how our nation changed after that crash and they've been trying to prop up a system that hasn't been viable since the 80s.
Oh and the best part, the ones to suffer the greatest from the collapse weren't boomers or even gen X, it was Millenials and Zoomers who have been hit hardest by the repercussions.
True economic growth here has been essentially nonexistent for our entire lives. Throw in the constantly rising taxes, inflation, removal of tax breaks and our economy has in fact dropped during our lives.
When the next market crash comes, we're going to get absolutely fucked and this nation will have to drop the welfare sector to nothing, because it's just not affordable.
