As for getting your foot in the door, learn a commonly used language. Java and Python make up about 90% of the work in this field. Avoid front end garbage like JavaScript and its frameworks. If you have a GitHub presence and you can pass a technical interview most employers won't care if you have a degree or not, just apply for jobs you think you can do at the bigger firms and they'll take you. After a couple of years in the field you can move from some normie grad churner to a higher tier outfit and dictate your own working conditions. There are ton of (((demoralizers))) on this board who will tell you SOFTWARE INDUSTRY IS OGRE for some reason (AI, Indians, Chinese, whatever the fuck) but they've been screaming that for the past 15 years at least and it's never happened.
