I take things from different religions, mostly oriental.
Atachment leads to passion and passion leads to violence which is the opposite of consciousness and will. This damages our spirit. The more we exersice the principles of consciousness and volition the more we will develope our spirit. This is the Karma. Of the quality of our karma depends that we reincarnate in a body or another, because it must be fit to hold a soul of our spiritual quality.
The spirit is a divine light from God that no one can fully understand. Its the most pure part of the self. The soul is the energy, the link between this and the body. The body dies and so can the soul, but if we live being Conscious , the soul and the spirit are in harmony and so in death when the spirit leaves the body the soul blends with the spirit and it reincarnates in a more suitable body. That is karma.
If the person had poor karma during life, his soul will have become during his life a completely different to his actuall self (the spirit) thus becoming an errant spectre or reincarnating in a random body, since the person didnt put effort in knowing his or her spirit or his mission in life.
From Elena Roerich's writing:
>The Fiery World, sometimes called the Highest World, is the world of the Spirit, the realm beyond the astral. Fiery energy (karma in some religions) is accumulated through striving toward perfection in work and devotion. The accumulation of fiery, or spiritual, energy makes possible ascension into the higher spheres. Certain nerve centers that open and increase spiritual perception are activated through this realm.
