it was actually some guy on league trying to get me to join his server so we could have voice comms for the game. i never join that stuff as a general rule because it's cancer 99% of the time. that's probably why anything you saw was so nonsensical, it was just a server some random guy made to add other even more random people to for league
the mechanics didn't seem particularly weird or difficult to understand, just uninteresting to me. i find sandbox-y games really hit or miss so it's kind of par for the course
