I myself had this problem until I actually began to pay attention to my body, imagining the energy going in with the breath, running up and down my spine running across the energy centers and eventually getting to perceive it. When you begin to be able to do this although it still requires will to get yourself to it you actually come to enjoy it, to perceive and control these energies and you can feel better and better the more time you keep doing it.
You have problems with that probably because you believe you are not supposed to perceive anything, that meditating is just shutting your brain off and having it do nothing (ie: a self-induced catatonic state). Which in my personal opinion is neither desirable and probably not even fully possible.
