I mean, consider modern America; who's going to move into the house you just built in your big soulless suburban development? Normal white couple? Or black couple? Or Indian couple? Or single Indian? Or Somalian? Or Chinese couple? Or a few dozen Mexican/Guatemalan fruit pickers?
To make sure you can sell it to anyone, you have to make it as soulless as possible. Otherwise it might weird someone out. Like all manners of sales, they need the broadest customer base possible, and they do that by going for lowest common denominator.
