Personally I think medieval 2 is a good mix between antiquity and total war empires
Rome 1 is complete barbarism and uncivility, and total war empires is like peak civility before the advent of the industrial revolution
You dont need actual post industrial revolution factories that run on coal to mass produce muskets. Chinese had discovered gunpowder like some centuries prior right
Personally I literally cringe whenever some post apocalypse movie uses guns from the post industrial era. Like society has collapsed. Start using arrows, and at the most muskets, arquebusiers and handgonnes
