>>20379567Lexi laughs nervously once again, takes a step forward, and looks around Cassie’s hotel room. She catches a glimpse of a gun poking out of Cassie’s suitcase, but pretends not to notice. She wasn’t surprised by Cassie being in possession of a firearm. The Foremother told her everything there was to know about her, particularly her expansive criminal empire. It’s what made Cassie so valuable.
But if Lexi was going to build a relationship with Cassie, a close enough one to earn her trust, she needed to ‘find out’ about Cassie’s double life. Really, ‘accidentally’ discovering the gun might just lead to Cassie telling her the truth. Lexi shoots a glance back to her cousin. “This is a lovely room you’ve got here,” she says. “You afford all of this on the WWA salary? They must be paying you a fair bit more than GJPW pays me.”
“Yes… but I also own quite a few nightclubs, all very profitable,” Cassie replies.
“Oh right, of course, now that you mention it I did see something about that when I looked you up online.” Lexi inches a little closer to the bed Cassie’s suitcase is rested on. “My mum’s in the entertainment industry herself, owns a club in Soho. A more private and exclusive sort than the ones you own.” Lexi giggles. “The type where people wear masks and get divorces if their spouses find out what they’ve been up to.” Lexi sits on the bed. “So, what’s with all the suitcases? Going somewhere?”
“Yes, I’ll be heading back to Spaghetti Town soon.” Cassie’s expression darkens as thoughts of Kanako’s recent actions and taunts cross her mind. “I have business there, in WWA.”
Sensing that Cassie is distracted, Lexi eyes the gun poking out of the suitcase once again, and decides to make her move. “Hey, what is that-”
Cassie’s eyes widen. “Don’t!”
Lexi pulls the suitcase open, exposing the gun into plain view. “Oh, fucking hell!” She immediately takes a step back, a look of feigned shock on her face. “Why do you have that?”
