Mostly people are into it for the music, choreography, variety shows, live performances, vlogs, etc. A lot of people also really like following ratings and awards and whatnot to see what groups are up and coming or doing poorly. It just depends which sort of things you're into.
There's lots of interesting things surrounding the music that keeps it fresh for so long, but for most people it is still primarily about the songs. It's a pretty diverse genre, so there's plenty of stuff out there, but you have to do a bit of searching to find some of the more interesting stuff.
