Ultimately It's there to just psychologically assist you if it comes to it and get you out of there as soon as possible while hopefully neutralizing the threat because all of these training exercises are done in controlled environments. That's why our forces are hiring ex-Spetsnaz guys to give us the psychological boost so at least if some jihadi pulls out a shiv to knife you as a last stand you won't be as afraid because you'll be better psychology prepared and can hopefully react quicker.
