>>18384247I don't think Kobain's influence was all that bad while he was still alive, he helped more indie/alt bands see the light of day because execs would sign on whoever he said was cool. It's moreso how they nearly deified him after his death that's the issue. Execs are set in their ways until movers and shakers like Kobain come on the scene to surprise everyone, so the hugbox bullshit has staying this way since is to be partially expected.
Pop has also shifted before and after his fame. Glam/arena rock was already being soured in the public opinion before he appeared to do what the public wanted and bury all this aging stagnant bullshit. Rap is a huge part of the pop scene now and that basically happened entirely without him, starting in the early 90s the same way he did with the huge takeoff of Ganster-Rap and G-Funk. Rap labels will sign on their friends regardless of their skills at spitting bars. I wish Kobain gave a shit about New Jack Swing so I could see more of that instead of shitty gatekeeping artists who suck balls that no one cares about.
