>>21398025I've never in my life heard a catholic say "we are LITERALLY eating Jesus's body and blood right now! He was made out of bread and grapes!"
That sounds like something a particularly butthurt person might say who hated catholics and wanted you to think they were stupid.
Rather, it's a quote from scripture. It's a recanting of a blessings Jesus gave his followers, when he was trying to explain to his illiterate Mediterranean disciples, that he was sacrificing his body and soul for their sake. A sacrifice which did "literally" come to fruition as well as shape the rest of their lives and bind them under an immortal legacy.
Is that "literal?" Did that "literally" happen? Who knows! Many people swear by it and dedicated their entire lives to spreading that message because they found it true and helpful in their lives. That's why it's called faith. It just works.
