The later is very race specific and responsible for the differences in smell. The former is mostly the same molecules amongst all races and they're not really smelled consciously but subconsciously. Pheromones do have an effect but it seems to vary from partner to partner. I had some women who were very into smelling my armpits (all white). Others who didn't really react to it. Might be related to the pill, I think I remember reading a study that women off the pill were more attracted to pheromones. Would make sense since the pill tricks their body into thinking they're already pregnant.
