Ultimately this "is x whyte?" is an amerimutt/anglo thing. I was not familiar with the concept until I learned english, although It was aways clear to me who was italian and who wasn't and the inherent vast regional differences. It's probably for the best, as Italians want to remain italians and not follow the anglo identity politics.
