in the old days it was obvious who was white. the people who explored the planet and almost invariably found darker people in less advanced civilizations.
in the USA the white people were pilgrims, pioneers, settlers, builders of the civilization to come. in other places they did their thing where civilization was old and built long ago. like india. but the dark people they found there in teeming masses barely put up any resistance compared to the "wild savages" of north america. nobody uses pajeets for sports mascots because they don't have that ferocity and capability as part of their image in other people's eyes. they're silly sidekicks or supporting characters, which makes all their bluster uniquely ludicrous
