Laserdiscs are the apex of physical media packaging - huge lp size sleeves covered in original art, massive Japanese boxes that could cost over $1000 (the Urusei Yatsura box was $2500 and had 50 discs).
The analog video may not be HD, but it has it's charm (especially on a good CRT). For 70's tech, it's amazing how they push it with Dolby Digital, DTS, etc. on the later discs.
All the classic era anime came out on LD, so it was long the reference format for rich otaku back in the day. Dirt cheap now.
