>>8230043>>8230232>>8230377keeping aquariums and vivariums is a really patrician hobby. i just finished setting up pic related, it is going to be housing some poison dart frog frens. i currently have another planted vivarium for a young boa constrictor and a planted aquarium with a betta fish and some shrimps. they are so relaxing i could watch them all day, tis nice having non-human frens and theyre very fun to design and build
it does cost a fair amount of money to set up ($200-500 usd id say) but 100% worth and you could probably do it on a budget if you really try
i prefer vivariums because they are effectively maintenance free, with aquariums you have to do water changes weekly which is a pain in the ass, vivariums dont have water quality to worry about and the substrate is seeded with microfauna (springtails and isopods, and beneficial fungus and bacteria) which break down any animal waste and decomposing plants, mold etc so they are maintenance free with the exception of trimming plants every 4-6 months, watering, and feeding any animal inhabitants
