What you want is the false sense of importance that having someone depend on you gives. Meaning in life is not something so easily obtained - the gods made sure of this. If you start looking for it in others you're only going to bid farewell to this life with a disappointing ending.
Being the whole world to someone will not fill the empty void inside your heart. It's what everyone wants to push around, but it's simply not true. You'll find that it gets quite tiring after a while. At some point you'll look back and wonder what you ever saw in that person to begin with. Life will start drifting by you as you're left in a decaying marriage with a partner whose demands are increasingly becoming impossible to meet. You're home will no longer be your shelter from the world: it's going to be your own personal hell that you made - an eternal reminder to the fact that you never bothered to look beyond what is in front of you. Maybe when you have that bottle of alcohol in your hand you'll start using that brain of yours and realize where you went wrong. But at that point, it'll be too late.
