>>1970819>Why does Quebec need all that free money?Quebec has an actually functional economy, so we pay a lot into the federal budget. equalization payments are based on a formula of taxes and cost of living, and quebec's taxes are very high. alberta doesn't charge personal tax basically at all so it pays very little into the fed, but gets very little back in kind.

Quebec is the one province that literally Literally LITERALLY had a major terror group dedicated to its independence from the fed, and especially so for its independence from the crown. very few people like the Queen here, and even among those who are federalist, their opinion is mostly "I guess the queen is a nice lady but didn't she stop having anything to do us in the 80s?"
