>>17807974The only time I've ever signed up to a streaming service was when I hot six months of Spotify Premium for free when I first signed a smartphone contract back in 2016. Things are different now, but back then none of the streaming services had any Zappa albums which was a huge red flag. No King Crimson at the time either. Did some digging and I couldn't find certain essential albums from bands I like such as Agnostic Front and Municipal Waste, plus my favorite band Nomeansno had none of their full-length albums up there. Some of what I just mentioned has been corrected or will be corrected in the future, but my past experience with Spotify taught me that I'm gonna run into brick walls when searching for some of my favorite shit. Plus there's the fact that anything currently up there can go away at any time for any reason the rights-holders decide (Neil Young Fans on Spotify know what I mean, not that anyone here will care about that). I swear to god, handing over the keys to one's music/media collection is the most retarded things to become normalized, but I guess people don't mind owning nothing these days.
The only online music platform I use is Bandcamp because at least I get to keep a high-quality copy for myself that doesnt require an online connection just to listen to it. (I generally avoid paying full-price for a download, but I will pitch a buck or two to bands who make their albums avaialble as "Name Your Price" downloads).
