When I was in St.Petersburg 9 years ago, there have been goverment sponsered advertisments everywhere saying:

For context, new year is a very important festivity over there and for some people its "culture" to be drunk from 31.12 to the 13.01. The second date is the new year according to the old calendar.
And another thing is that Putin has introduced a law, that every citizen or someone who intends to be a citizen can get 1ha of land per family member(including todlers) for EXACTLY ONE JANNY PAYCHECK! The only thing you have to do, is use the land in some way (including gardening or simply living) for 5 years, then you keep it.
