that said, there are a lot of caveats that muddy the water as far as the US laffer curve
that chart is federal only - state and local taxes vs. GDP vary quite a bit more, ranging from ~15% (NH) to ~50% (VT)
those grew quite a bit from ~1950-1980, but have mostly flattened since
in total it places the US at ~37% of GDP, which is closer to the EU's average
